Our clarinetist, Mr. Ivan Å vager, had a severe heart attack a few days ago. All our members wish him a successful recovery and a quick return to the jazz scene fully restored in all his splendor.

Yesterday the BDO opened the 41st "Guitar Fest" in Zajecar's central square where we passed the challenge of performing for a rock audience with flying colors. The visit to Gamzigrad only furthered our excellent impression of the Timok region.

Your favorite orchestra has come home at last! After the March Keckemet Festival, our performances at the 2006 Norrtelje Jazzdagar concert in Sweden and then once again in Hungary at the Miskolc Dixieland Festival allow us to announce that Serbian jazz has officially returned to the European jazz scene. It has been decades since our band had the opportunity to open as many as three European jazz festivals, a fact we are delighted to note.

The Belgrade Dusks, organizer of one of the oldest and the most outstanding cultural events in our capital has, for the first time in its history, entrusted the opening of such a significant cultural happening to a Dixieland orchestra. We were privileged to perform our most popular pieces on the concert stage in front of the ZZSK Institute, opening the festivities in honor of International Music Day.

The Orchestra once again had the pleasure to represent our capital at one of the biggest sports happenings in the country – the Belgrade Marathon. Our pleasure was increased with the track record broken and our time spent with this year’s event promoter, Carl Lewis. He took a picture with the orchestra and made the remark that he too had once played the cello and the double bass.

Since March 24th your favorite orchestra has finally officially become an orchestra with international experience!!! The wonderful public of Keckemet, Hungary received our performance at the “Bohem Ragtime & Jazz Festival” in the best way possible. The rounds of applause that lasted longer than the songs themselves are sure to be remembered for a long time. Superbly organized, we are pleased that our cooperation with the festival will continue into the future.

The Orchestra was honored by performing as the featured event in the closing ceremony of Sombor’s “Laza Kostic” Cultural Center’s 10th anniversary celebration. The concert in the beautiful city theater is one the Orchestra will certainly remember for a long time. Judging from the response and praise, so will the wonderful public of Sombor.

The Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra is thrilled to announce its winning of the Association Award for our “contribution to the advancement of creative production in the field of jazz, pop and rock music” presented at the celebratory joint concert for the Jazz, Pop and Rock Music Association.

In the history of The Belgrade Philharmonic this was the first time that a Dixieland orchestra was invited to perform with this eminent establishment. On this occasion, the communal assembly of Stari Grad has donated three performances of “So Jazz Came To Be” to all the 8th grade students in its territory. According to both the head of the Philharmonic and the president of the communal assembly, such events shall become a custom in the future. So the long-promised jazz education of children has finally begun.

The Organization of Musical Youth of Serbia gave great credit to our Orchestra by inviting us to hold two educational concerts for Belgrade high school students at Kolarac, the finest concert hall in our capital. We wouldn’t want to brag too much, so you’ll have to ask the students themselves how the concert went. We hope that other members of Musical Youth of Serbia will also have the opportunity to see the musical spectacle “So Jazz Came To Be”.

On the very day of our banjo-player Vlada`s 48th birthday, the Orchestra received the greatest gift ever: the Belgrade Secretariat of Culture rewarded us for all our efforts by granting the Orchestra a free concert term in Kolarac, the most prestigious concert hall in the country!!! The concert is scheduled for Saturday, September 10th (our drummer Branko`s birthday)! One thing beats the other! Dear friends, welcome to Kolarac!!!

The American Embassy in Belgrade granted us the honor to perform at the Ambassador’s traditional Thanksgiving reception, celebrating their greatest national holiday. We were even more pleased when asked to perform the following day at the Consulate in Podgorica. Unforgettable!

Participation in the program of the 18th Belgrade Marathon was indeed a special honor for the Orchestra; we have finally had the opportunity to represent our capital with our music in one of the biggest sports happenings. At last, a truly Belgradian orchestra acted for Belgrade and the Marathon, giving a warm musical welcome to all the visitors, especially the many guests from abroad.

Having just returned from Novi Sad we cannot keep the thrill to ourselves of the impressions that the students of all ages in this beautiful town have made on us. On April 6, in the packed hall of the Serbian National Theater (860 seats), the Orchestra performed the show “So jazz came to be” especially for them. This particular performance will be remembered by the unexpected, fantastic reception by our youth, who are usually, yet wrongly, perceived as “turbo-folk-generation”. After the show the orchestra members were unanimous: we have never given a concert so beautiful. It was a most effective opening of the “Jazz into schools” project which shall continue to campaign in primary and secondary schools throughout the country.
